A colourist in broad fields of paint, drenching the canvas, Bruer Tidman is a dedicated modernist, tutored at the Royal College of Art in heady 1960's. Taking on the new medium of acrylic, his work developed into simplified paintings about man/woman relationships, having an immediate impact on his audience. Bruer's series of large nude paintings was one of Chappel Galleries' first solo shows in the early 1990's. We have seen him worlking out of various studios; vast attics which doubled as living space. Of all the artists we know, it is Bruer who courts the bohemian life. With an almost religious fervour for art, this coupling of freedom and passion is imparted to his work.
